The Great Singapore Sale….or not
Monday, May 29th, 2006I just came from Suntec with Yen. We went through CityLink Mall, Marina and finally, Suntec. The Great Singapore Sale started a couple of days ago, and there’s been a shopping frenzy all over the island! We came back to the apartment at mga 10PM, and I was able to buy….nothing! Yen says that I’m no fun to go shopping with since I didn’t buy anything. Wala, e. Walang kasya. I was lusting after this blouse in Esprit, but, as the story of my life goes, walang XS. The nice bag I wanted at Charles and Keith just came in light pink, light green, pure white and cream. No black. Damn! Nothing else looked appealing naman; and kainis, di ko naabutan na bukas ang Theme, my all-time favorite store! OK lang, I was able to buy a couple of blouses from there na at 50% off last weekend
We were in Orchard last Saturday, and I’ve never seen it packed with soooooo many people. Tang’s (parang Rustan’s) was packed, but thankfully, Isetann was not. I just kept converting all the prices into Philippine pesos with my phone, and was horrified at how mahal everything still was. At the end of that shopping expedition, all I had to show for it was a blue violet G2000 long sleeved shirt for Sam which went for S$20 (mga Php600+) from the original S$29. Not so bad, wrinkle-free naman (no need to make plantsa, which is handy, like when he goes abroad), and I’m sure he’ll even be more pogi when he wears it. I also got an Umberto Eco hardbound novel for mga S$11.95 and another paperback on what happened in Nanjing during the war for mga S$6.50. Not bad I think. I’m still eyeing the collector’s illustrated copy of the Da Vinci Code and Lee Kuan Yew’s autobiography. EQ muna up till Borders Bookstore goes on sale.
I think the reason that I’m not so gung-ho to go shopping is that I finally booked myself a flight to Bangkok for October! Of course I’m staying with Peew, and I think there, my money will have more spending power. Sa mall here, I kept thinking that in Bangkok I’ll probably be paying half the ridiculously expensive price of a blouse or bag. Haaaay…I’ll wait nalang up till October, then I’ll go all out. Scrap the early Christmas shopping here!
So…is it a Great Singapore Sale? Not totally. Some stuff, sulit, some stuff not. You just have to be patient and have a lot of EQ (like me!Hahahaha!) to identify and get a really good deal :) Otherwise, pack your bags and just go to Manila or Bangkok nalang!
